Production Log #1

 The projector scenes

Olivia and I began the production of our music video with the projector sequences on 1/12/22 with our actress, Lucy. We had been struggling beforehand with our actors and shooting the video, something we had hoped to had finished filming by this point in the term. However, we were fortunate enough to be able to cast Lucy this week and began filming our music video with the projector scenes.

We used the sensory videos we found on YouTube during Production Day in September and checked to see if they were copyrighted before using them. This video of coloured ink in water was particularly effective as it provided a lot of vibrant colour and emphasised Lucy's emotions in the footage.

We began filming the footage of Lucy in front of the lyrics first, which read "I won't shut up" from the song. Olivia and I experimented with lighting here, something we also practiced on Production Day, and found that positioning the aperture light at a low angle on the desk next to the projector worked best; since it produced enough light on Lucy's face to see her lipsyncing, but not so much that you couldn't see the lyrics in the footage. We also placed the light on a metal hole-puncher, as it was magnetic. This was effective as it held the aperture light up at the right angle as we used it.

Next, Olivia and I filmed the footage with the sensory videos. This was successful overall and we managed to get all the projector footage filmed today which was good. Lucy learned the lyrics of the song very quickly so overall the shoot was a success. We also experimented with the speed on the YouTube video, something that can just be changed in settings. This was also good as some of the ink clips were either too slow or fast for our liking, most notably the red ink which we wanted to use to represent our character's anger. We sped it up so it spilled over her in time with the lipsyncing.

Overall, this was a successful first shoot for our music video, and Olivia and I managed to get all the footage for the projector scenes. It was also good, as if we need to re-shoot any of this footage then we can easily do it at school with the YouTube videos.
