Creating a Digipack

Creating a Digipak

Initial ideas

Olivia and I started discussing our potential ideas for our Digipak as we were coming to the end of editing our music video. At first, we simply considered what kind of image we wanted to present on the album cover, as well as how we wanted to present our artist, who is our actor, Lucy, from our video. We decided to create a mind map of images on Padlet from our initial thoughts. These either came from other album covers which presented their artist in a similar way to how we wanted to present ours, or just from our ideas following the aesthetic of our video. Generally, we're experimenting with the idea of using colour and darkness to keep a feeling of mystery around our artist. We also liked the idea of silhouettes and showing only a little bit of the artist's face. From here we will do a photoshoot with our actor in front of the projector ink videos (again) and Olivia and I will design a potential cover using the photos to decide how we want our artist and cover to look.

Photoshoot

We took some photos of our artist (Luci) in front of stills from the ink videos. Olivia and I experimented with different ways to create representation for our artist, including covering half her face to give some mystery to her identity. This ended up not coming out the way we had predicted and we weren't satisfied with how it looked, so we then tried taking photos with her face in full view in front of the orange ink. These photos turned out a lot better so we experimented further with this and took photos of our artist looking away, rather than directly at the camera. We thought this looked better overall so this ended up being our favourite photo which we will include in the Digipak cover. Finally, we tried out some blue ink for a potential back cover for the album. This felt more tranquil compared to the orange so we decided we would include these on the back with the orange on the front. This reflects the narrative from our music video, in which the artist's anger turns to calm after she regains her confidence.
Finally, Olivia and I used the website Canva to create our Digipak. We kept it simple in order to not over-complicate how we wanted to present our artist and stuck to the ink imagery to represent her emotions.
