Props

Props

Here are the props that Olivia and I used during our music video production. As we were setting our music video in a dinner party scenario, we knew we would be working with food and drink. We also knew that each shoot could last for long periods of time, so we had to consider using props that could last a long time and still look good post-production.

We wanted our characters to be drinking red wine during the dinner party to give the idea that our central couple have a lavish exterior they wish to promote to their guests. Since wine is relatively expensive to use, as we had a budget, and most of our actors are underage, we decided to use non-diluted Ribena fruit juice as it looked similar to an actual red wine. This was a lot cheaper to use and could easily be diluted with water if we wanted a different colour to it.

As for the actual food, we originally planned to include steak and salad at the dinner party, as it fit the decorative and sophisticated atmosphere we had in mind. However, we found it difficult to plan cooking the food whilst also focusing on setting up equipment and shooting, which we saw as a priority. We were also worried about whether the food would still look good after a few hours of filming, especially the salad, and again the food proved to be very costly for our small budget. Therefore, we decided to use pasta and tomato sauce as it was easy and quick for us to make and still looked good over the three hours we shot this scene. This also meant that our actors were fed on set as the food was vegetarian friendly and they could eat it as we were filming.
